It’s about being committed to creating change for the better within your organisation – and being able to inspire others to do the same. Strong leaders set the direction, build an inspiring vision, and create a compelling picture for the people around them.

Management is about mapping out where you need to go to “Achieve Success” as a team or a business; and it gives perspective, excitement, and inspiration to everyone else on the journey. Yet, while leaders set the direction, they must also use management skills and effective communication to guide their people to the right destination. In my opinion, strong communication skills are one of the most important skills any leader can have.

One thing we hear now in the world, is that change is constant, it’s the one thing that is happening all around us and will continually do so. In this ever changing world you are either growing or standing still.

NLP has many presuppositions, two of which I feel are relevant when leading people:
  • The Law of Requisite Variety: (The system/person with the most flexibility of behaviour control the system). The more flexible you are, the more opportunities you can take on in your role as a leader.

  • Respect for the other person’s model of the world. In order to communicate properly it is important that you have an understanding for the other person’s model of the world. All people have different ways of understanding and experiencing the world (different beliefs, values, filters, etc). By understanding and respecting these differences instead of judging, better communication will occur.

Once you have the most flexibility of behaviour in any situation and respect the other persons model of the world, everything will change. The people in your team will feel more comfortable, smoother communication will allow more creative ideas being bounced between people and there will be more trust as a whole.

People will get a stronger grasp about your goals and ideas, because you will be communicating from their model of the world, not yours. The team will feel excited about coming to work, they and others will want to be on the journey. You will be able to hire people that really fit in your team environment and we know environment drives attitude, dont we.

Think about it, these new understandings will not only make an impact in your career or business life, they will make an impact in all your relationships too.
